He brings expertise from the two topmost teaching institutions of the country namely PGI Chandigarh and Sanjay Gandhi PGI lucknow, which is considered the most advanced department of kidney transplant in entire Asia accredited with over four thousand transplants. Apart from being superspecialised kidney surgeon he has received trainings at the Comprehensive transplant center at the Johns Hopkins, Maryland, USA and the AULA clinic, Barcelona, Spain. Dr Ranjan, being a super-specialised urologist at heart has a different technique of kidney transplant than non-urologists transplant surgeons, which has the best outcomes in kidney transplantation. He is one of the pioneering surgeons not only in the country but globally to have popularised the revolutionary SMART kidney transplant technique which has been internationally acclaimed. The SMART kidney transplant technique utilises a smartly placed incision in the lower belly ( as compared to cutting open of the abdominal muscles wide open in a traditional open surgery kidney transplant), which is almost one fifth of the open incision, which enables faster healing and quicker recovery to the patient. Since the incision is very small, no muscles are cut, there is hardly any pain, blood loss, and trauma to the body is minimised. The smart incision is placed in such a way that it is painless for the transplant recipient and the healing is quicker and stronger. The surgical site infection rates are close to zero percent even in diabetic and obese patients . Utilising the 3D ten fold magnification by the Davinci robotic surgical camera system the precision of the vascular anastomoses of the kidney attained is to the highest humanly possible level, with success rates much superior than traditional open surgery.
